Celtics
Caron Butler

"Boris is playin' his most aggressive game."

"Can we see this kind of impressive performance every night?"
"maybe."  he said.
I'll try my best."

他是player of the game

"Boris Diaw scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Suns past the Bucks on Saturday."

Healthy Suns rally past Bucks

Paul Coro The Arizona Republic

A Sports Illustrated survey of NBA players revealed that Steve Nash is the person that his peers would want most to play with if given the chance.

Members of the Suns had the same feeling Thursday when the offense that had just scored 137 against Denver sputtered without Nash to season lows in scoring (86) and shooting (36 percent) at Utah.

Phoenix got Nash and fellow All-Star Shawn Marion back Saturday night, and it was almost as if the Suns had Grant Hill back, too - with the way Boris Diaw played aggressively in his starting slot - as the Suns rallied to a 122-114 home win against Milwaukee.

The Suns' pick-and-roll defense was abysmal most of the game, leading to a deficit and 68 first-half points for the Bucks. Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut posted a career-high 29 points on 14-of-16 shooting, mostly against Amaré Stoudemire. Even with Michael Redd missing six of his first seven shots, the Suns made it look as though the Bucks would snap a streak of 19 consecutive winless visits to Phoenix.

The Suns mustered a third quarter of NBA defense while Nash showed why he should get the league's best shooter in that survey, too. Nash made his first eight shots of the second half, and the Suns began to score at the same rate that they allowed Milwaukee to in the second quarter, when the Bucks scored on 12 consecutive possessions.

It was Nash from the perimeter and Diaw harkening back to his 2005-06 season that earned him the Most Improved Player trophy, a $45 million contract extension and the nickname "3-D" for his multidimensional game. The Suns turned the game in their favor with a 35-18 third quarter that included five Suns takeaways leading to 10 points.

Despite battling a recent flu, Nash finished with a season-high 35 points on 13-of-17 shooting with 26 of his points coming in the second half.

"I actually didn't feel great but somebody was smiling on me, and a bunch of shots went in," Nash said.

The Bucks counted on a less-than-100-percent Nash to focus on passing.

"We were going to stay with some shooters and see if he was ready to beat us," Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak said. "That was the poison we chose."

Diaw, starting while Hill recovers from an appendectomy, also posted a season high with 21 points as he took advantage of guards who switched onto him. Diaw added 11 rebounds, his first points-and-rebounds double-double in 61 games. It came two nights after he had five points and two rebounds in 35 minutes at Utah. He called it "nothing special."

"I try to read the situation as usual and make the right play," Diaw said. "When it's a bigger guy on me, I try to use my quickness and a lot of movement - ball movement or players' movement that helps against bigger guys."

Cheers

Last seen leaving US Airways Center ill on Wednesday, guard Steve Nash returned with a season-high 35 points and made 10 consecutive shots in one stretch.

Jeers

Milwaukee shot 62 percent in the first half and seemed to get whatever shot it wanted each time it ran the two-man game.

Player of the game

Boris Diaw gets it with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

View from press row

When Boris Diaw is an all-around threat like he was Saturday, it makes him even more effective with his passing. Diaw got rolling against Milwaukee with drives and post-ups against mismatched Bucks. One third-quarter play showed the difference that his aggressive play sets up. After Diaw scored three times in four trips, he passed cross-court out of his post-up and had the Bucks scrambling to recover defensively. Diaw did not get the play's assist but he essentially set up Steve Nash's uncovered 3-pointer.

(Head Coach Mike D'antoni On Boris Diaw’s performance)
We need that from Boris. He has that ability and that’s why we like him. He did great tonight, but we need that constantly. I think he is feeling more comfortable. He got 36 minutes and I think that has a lot to do with it. We go to him and it just all comes together. Obviously he’s feeling well. It’s a lot of little things, but I am really happy with what he is doing and what he did tonight and hopefully we just keep going from there.”

(Suns center Amare Stoudemire On Boris Diaw’s big game)
“That was huge, we need that lift. He came out playing aggressive, played strong and attacked the rim. That was a big lift for us. I know he came out and played hard tonight, which is very important for us. We kind of fed off his energy, and myself and Steve as well kind of took it from there. So, that was huge of Boris and we appreciate him coming out and playing as hard as he did.”

(On Andrew Bogut)
“He’s a big guy, he’s huge down there in the paint as a 7-footer. He was able to get a couple easy baskets there. I played solid defense on him for the most part, he just made some tough shots and he’s pretty good with that left hand.”

(On Steve Nash)
“He came out and played well. He definitely felt a lot better than he did yesterday, which is a big lift for us as well. He shot the ball well from the outside and did a great job of getting guys involved and that was important for us.”

(On defensive difference in second half)
“Activity. I think the activity and energy in the second half is what got us the win and we just got to keep that going.”

Bucks Lose in Phoenix Scorefest

Five Suns players scored in double figures Saturday, including Boris Diaw (pictured), who finished with 21 points.

Phoenix 122, Milwaukee 114

PHOENIX, Jan. 12 (AP) -- Steve Nash still wasn't feeling all that great, yet he was a spectacular reason the Milwaukee Bucks left Phoenix as losers again.

Nash, shaking off the lingering effects of stomach flu, scored 26 of his season-high 35 points in the second half and the Suns beat the Bucks in Phoenix for the 20th consecutive time, 122-114 on Saturday night.

"I actually didn't feel great, but somebody was smiling on me,'' he said, "and a bunch of shots went in.''

Nash was 11-of-13 shooting, 4-of-5 of them 3s, in the final two quarters. He left Wednesday night's game against Indiana in the third quarter and missed Thursday night's loss at Utah because of what he termed a "pretty nasty'' illness.

He was no sure thing for this game, either.

"I didn't know this moring if I was going to be able to play, to be honest,'' Nash said, "but it was decent.''

The Suns' dominance of the Bucks is the longest active home winning streak of its kind in the NBA. The Spurs have beaten Golden State in San Antonio 19 straight times.

Amare Stoudemire had 31 points and Boris Diaw, starting while Grant Hill recovers from an appendectomy, had a season-best 21 points and 11 rebounds.

"An unbelievable player,'' Nash said of the Diaw. "When he uses all his weapons and is aggressive, he's a fantastic talent. I'd love to see him play like that all the time, and I don't mean the numbers. I mean being involved, being part of the game, putting pressure on the defense.''

Andrew Bogut made 14-of-16 shots, all near the basket, for a career-best 29 points to lead the Bucks, who were playing one night after losing 110-105 against the Lakers in Los Angeles. Michael Redd added 18 points but on 5-of-16 shooting in his first start in six games.

Redd sat out five with a deep thigh bruise, then came off the bench against the Lakers. Charlie Bell also scored 18 and Bobby Simmons had 17 for the Bucks, who lost despite shooting 56 percent.

"This was a dangerous team for us,'' Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said. "They score in all kinds of ways.''

The Suns shot 57 percent in a game that featured little defense.

The Bucks were up by as many as 10 points and led 68-61 at halftime. But Phoenix outscored the Milwaukee 35-18 in the third quarter, finishing it with a 13-3 run to lead 96-86 entering the fourth.

"At the start of the second half, I think we stubbed our foot a little bit,'' Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak said. "They got the crowd back into it, got them feeling good about themselves and then we ran into three guys (Nash, Diaw and Stoudemire) that shot about 75 percent between the three of them.''

Milwaukee hasn't won in Phoenix since Feb. 21, 1987.

But this one was no blowout.

The Bucks cut the lead to 100-94 on Royal Ivey's 13-footer with 9:22 left, but Nash, Stoudemire and Raja Bell returned to the game. Nash made a 19-footer, Stoudemire a 7-foot runner and Nash a 3-pointer, boosting Phoenix's lead to 109-98.

"Their pick-and-roll is probably the best in the league,'' Redd said, "so difficult to guard.''

Milwaukee sliced it to 116-111 when Redd made two free throws with 2:39 to go, then Nash's 15-footer put Phoenix ahead by seven 1:38 from the finish. Charlie Bell's 3-pointer cut it to 118-114 with 56 seconds left, and the Bucks had a chance to get closer, but Raja Bell blocked Redd's shot.

Raja Bell and Nash put it away with a pair of free throws apiece.

Milwaukee outscored Phoenix 21-7 to go up 60-50 on Bogut's dunk with 2:38 left in the first half.

"They're a tough team,'' Bogut said. "They almost let you score so they can get the ball back and push it right back at you.''

The Bucks shot 62 percent, 8-of-14 from 3-point range, while taking a 68-61 halftime lead.

Stoudemire scored 21 in the first half, 16 on 8-for-9 shooting in the first quarter. His only miss in the first was a 3-pointer.

But Bogut faced even less resistance, scoring 17 in the first half on 8-of-8 shooting. Simmons scored 15 in the half, making 7-of-9 shots.

Notes: The last four home games for Phoenix came against teams playing the second of back-to-back sets. The Suns won three of them. ... Phoenix is 14-2 against the Eastern Conference. ... ... The last time the Bucks won in Phoenix, John Lucas was their leading scorer with 24 points.
